The init of the forthcoming

Beetroot is once again one of the winners of this year’s “red dot award: communication design”. With 6,468 entries from 40 countries in 24 competition categories, red dot is one of the most important international design contests. This year red dot will be treading new ground: red dot is going to Berlin! And we are looking forward to travel there next October, attend all the events and receive our red dot awards. Beetroot got 4 awards in total for the following projects: 45th Dimitria festival illustrations, EBGE (Greek Design and Illustration awards) visual identity, Trata on ice packaging, Photobiennale Sites installation.
“Greece as a state is sinking and decomposes every day while its future is uncertain.
At the same time Greece as a place remains beautiful and unique to its visitors and residents.”
This poster was designed for an article of last weekend’s “TaNea” newspaper.
5 design studios had to design a poster about promoting Greece in this time of crisis.
Here is what we came up with.
Nearly 1000 likes for Beetroot’s facebook page. Beetroot have teamed up with Mangel—wurzel to giveaway 5 MW T-shirts. You can have a chance to win one. Just visit the facebook page and add comment or visit twitter and retweet the “giveaway” tweet.
The Designreport Greece is a very interesting design research project of Anastasios Koupantsis and Alexandros Michalakopoulos. The 74-minute documentary film “The Designreport Greece” will have its premiere next friday on the 1st of July. Here is the official trailer named “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright”. Really nice!

The Dieline Awards is a worldwide package design competition devoted exclusively to the art of brand packaging. The Awards Ceremony took place at The Dieline Package Design Conference in Chicago last friday. Beetroot is amongst the 40 winners across 13 different categories with 2 different projects. Both “Blink sparkling wine” and “Trata OnIce” packaging were honoured with a “Dieline Award” and made us very proud!
What a kick start for Kostas Kaparos. The young designer just won the Adidas all originals design contest and he is traveling to Barcelona next week to attend the OFFF festival. We are very proud for our talented team mate who is at the time doing his internship here in Beetroot.

Beetroot just came back from the beautiful Vilnius full of good news and great memories. Lecturing at the Spring: Icograda Design Week in Vilnius 2011, attending many design exhibitions and design walks, enjoying the life of the city and finally receiving 4 European Design Awards (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) at the ED-Awards ceremony were only few of the great stuff that this trip to Lithuania had for us.
The awarded projects: Kalathaki Cheese Packaging (G), Dimitria festival brand implementation (S), Trata on Ice Packaging (S), Dimitria festival illustrations (B).
*AČIŪ in Lithuanian means THANK YOU.

Last year the international jury of the Red dot awards selected six works from the categories of Advertising, Magazines & Daily Press, Packaging Design, Posters, TV & Films and Digital Games for a “red dot: grand prix”- top award in the competition.
Professor Kurt Weidemann, one of the most influential typographers of the 20th century, explains what made the jury decide to award the “red dot: grand prix” to Beetroot’s Romeo & Juliet poster.
What an honour!
